scholarly pride

Saraswati resided in the voice of great poet Kalidas. No one could defeat him in debate. After getting immense fame, prestige and respect, once Kalidas became proud of his scholarship.
.
He felt that he had acquired all the knowledge of the world and now there was nothing left to learn. There is no one more knowledgeable than him in the world. Once upon receiving an invitation from a neighboring state for a Shastrarth, Kalidas left on his horse after taking permission from Vikramaditya.
.
It was summer. Kalidas felt thirsty due to the strong and continuous travel of the sun. After a little search, he saw a broken hut. In the hope of water, he moved towards that direction. There was also a well in front of the hut.
.
Kalidas thought that if someone is in the hut, he should be requested to give water. At the same time, a small girl came out of the hut with a pot. The girl filled water from the well and started going from there.
.
Kalidas went to him and said – Girls! I am very thirsty, give me some water. The girl asked – who are you? I don’t even know you, first introduce yourself. Kalidas felt that who does not know me well, what is the need to introduce me?
.
Even then he was suffering from thirst, then he said – Girl, you are still small. That’s why I don’t know. If there is someone elder in the house, send him. He will recognize me on sight. I have a lot of name and respect far and wide. I am very learned person.
.
Unaffected by Kalidasa’s arrogance and boastful words, the girl said – You are telling a lie. There are only two strong people in the world and I know them both. If you want to quench your thirst, then tell the name of both of them?
.
Thinking a bit, Kalidas said – I do not know, only you tell me but give me water. My throat is drying up. The girl said- Two strong are ‘Anna’ and ‘Water’. Hunger and thirst have so much power to bow down even the most powerful. Look how thirst has made you.
.
Kalidas was amazed. The girl’s argument was irrefutable. Kalidas, who had defeated the great scholars, stood unanswered in front of a girl child. The girl again asked – tell the truth, who are you? She was ready to leave.
.
Kalidas humbly said – Girl! I am Batohi. Smiling girl said – You are still lying. There are only two bags in the world. I know both of them, tell me who are they both? Strong thirst had already weakened Kalidas’s intelligence, but being helpless, he again expressed his ignorance.
.
The girl said – you are telling yourself a great scholar and do not even know this? Traveling from one place to another without getting tired is called Batohi. There are only two, one is the Moon and the other is the Sun, who keep walking without getting tired. You are tired. Hunger is breathless with thirst. How can you get caught?
.
Having said this, the girl picked up a pot full of water and went inside the hut. Now Kalidas has become even more sad. He had never been so humiliated in his life. The body’s strength was decreasing due to thirst. My mind was spinning. He looked towards the hut with hope. Then an old woman came out from inside.
.
He had an empty pot in his hand. She started filling water from the well. Kalidas, who has become very humble till now, said – Give water to the mother, it will be a great virtue.
.
The woman said – son, I do not know you. Introduce yourself. I will definitely give you water. Kalidas said- I am a guest, please give me water. The woman said – how can you be a guest? There are only two guests in the world. First wealth and second youth. It doesn’t take long for them to go. Tell the truth who are you?
.
Defeated by all the arguments so far, Kalidas said – I am tolerant. Now you give water to drink. The woman said – No, there are only two who are tolerant. Firstly, the earth which bears the burden of all the sinners and the virtuous. By ripping his chest and sowing the seeds, it also gives stores of grains.
.
Secondly, the trees which are stoned still give sweet fruits. you are not tolerant tell the truth who are you Kalidas almost fell into a state of unconsciousness and said angrily with arguments – I am stubborn.
.
The woman said – then untrue. There are only two stubbornness – first fingernail and second hair, no matter how much you cut, they come out again and again. Tell the truth, who are you Brahmins? Completely humiliated and defeated, Kalidas said – Then I am a fool.
.
No how can you be a fool. There are only two fools. The first king who rules over everyone even without merit, and the second court pundit who tries to prove the king right by reasoning on the wrong thing to please him.
.
In a situation of not being able to say anything, Kalidas fell on the feet of the old woman and started begging for water. The old woman said – Get up Vats! When Kalidas looked up after hearing the sound, Mother Saraswati was standing there. Kalidas again bowed down.
.
Mother said- Knowledge comes from education and not ego. You considered the honor and prestige you got on the power of education as your achievement and sat with arrogance, so I had to do this farce to open your eyes.

.
Kalidas understood his mistake and after drinking plenty of water, he went ahead.
