Religion in Punjab

Sikhism and Hinduism are the two major religions of Punjab. Punjab being the land of different ancient religions; you will find people from different religious backgrounds. Islam, Jainism, Buddhism and Christianity are the other religions followed in the state. People from different religions co-exist with harmony.

Most of the people follow Sikhism. People worship Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth master of the Sikh religion. As per the Sikh religion, God is invisible and present in every form of life. They worship the ten masters and follow Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Scripture of the Sikhs. Sikh males can be easily distinguished from their turbans and beards. According to religious tenets, cutting their hair and smoking is prohibited.The Golden Temple of Amritsar is one of the world famous pilgrimage centres.

In Punjab, Khatri, Brahman, Baniya and Rajput are the common castes in Hinduism.
